Wayne State Institute of Gerontology
The Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University has been engaged in aging research and community outreach and education in the Detroit area since 1965. The IOG conducts research in the social and behavioral sciences and cognitive neurosciences on issues in aging and urban health.
What sets the IOG apart from other research centers is the philosophy of Director, Dr. Peter Lichtenberg, who believes that learning cannot be done in isolation. Under his direction, the IOG has developed four nationally recognized conferences, and runs close to 100 additional programs for professionals, seniors and caregivers annually, connecting valuable knowledge to well over 5000 people every year.
The Institute has forged many strong relationships with local, regional and national businesses and non-profit agencies who collaborate with them in their research and outreach efforts and is leading the way in dispelling the myths of aging.
